Rest in Peace, Sr. Martin Marie

Sr. Martin Marie of the Eucharist, O.P. (Carolyn Mill) was born on March 28, 1946, in Philadelphia, PA. She studied psychology, reflexology, and homeopathic medicine, and also worked as a prep and short order cook at Howard Johnson’s.

After she converted to Catholicism in 1976, she joined the Dominican Nuns of the Perpetual Rosary, Monastery of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Lancaster, PA, in 1978. She served the monastery as community secretary, sacristan, librarian, cook, and sub-prioress. Skilled in calligraphy, painting, metalwork, sewing, embroidery, counted cross stitch, and crochet, Sister Martin Marie took artwork orders for the community and sewed altar linens. She had a remarkable capacity for friendship, attested to by her voluminous correspondence.

When the Monastery of the Immaculate Heart of Mary closed in 2021, Sr. Martin Marie asked to come to the Dominican Monastery of the Infant Jesus in Lufkin, TX; formally transferring to this monastery in 2022. She went to her eternal reward on May 13, 2026.

Rosary for Sr. Martin Marie will be held at the Monastery Chapel at 7:00 PM on Sunday, May 17, 2026. The funeral Mass with be celebrated by the Most Rev. John Gregory Kelly at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 18, 2026, at the Monastery Chapel with internment in the Monastery cemetery immediately following the Mass.
